Frequently asked questions

What to know before, during and after a professional cosmetic whitening treatment.

Good to know

Understanding your whitening experience.

These answers are general cosmetic-whitening information. Brighter White Smiles is not a dental clinic and does not provide dental diagnosis or treatment.

Consult a dentist about pain, decay, gum concerns, oral-health conditions or any unexplained change in your teeth.

01Does teeth whitening work on all teeth?

Cosmetic whitening is designed to lift external staining on natural teeth. It cannot correct intrinsic discolouration or oral-health concerns, and it will not change the underlying colour of crowns, veneers, fillings, bonding or other artificial materials. Speak with your dentist if you are unsure what is causing a colour change.

02How many shades whiter can my teeth become?

Results vary with natural tooth colour, staining, lifestyle and tooth condition. As a guide, the Standard treatment is positioned for a minimum five-shade lift and Ultra White for up to fourteen shades, but no individual result can be guaranteed.

03How long does teeth whitening take?

Express takes around 45 minutes. Standard and BEYOND Sensitive take around 90 minutes. Ultra White includes two 90-minute sessions approximately one week apart.

04How long do results last?

Longevity differs from person to person and is influenced by coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and general lifestyle. The existing Brighter White Smiles guidance notes that results may last from three to six months and sometimes longer. Your technician will provide personalised maintenance guidance.

05Does teeth whitening hurt?

Many clients report little or no discomfort, but temporary sensitivity can occur. Tell your technician about any sensitivity before treatment so you can discuss the most suitable option. Persistent pain or oral-health concerns should be assessed by a dentist.

06What should I eat after teeth whitening?

For the first 48 hours, avoid strongly coloured foods and drinks that could stain a white shirt, such as coffee, red wine, berries, turmeric and green smoothies. Your technician will provide complete aftercare guidance. The BEYOND Sensitive treatment requires a 24-hour white diet.

07Can crowns, veneers or fillings be whitened?

Whitening does not change the underlying colour of crowns, veneers, fillings or other artificial dental materials. These areas may appear different once surrounding natural teeth are brighter, so discuss existing dental work before treatment.

08Which treatment should I choose?

Express suits clients who want to try professional whitening, have a quick refresh or maintain an existing result. Standard is our most popular recommendation for first-time clients who want a more noticeable result. Ultra White is the most comprehensive two-session programme. BEYOND Sensitive is designed for clients concerned about sensitivity. If you are still unsure, contact the studio before booking.

09What if I have sensitive teeth?

Sensitivity does not automatically rule out whitening. The BEYOND Sensitive treatment uses OSMO 6% gel and is specifically designed for sensitivity-conscious clients. Let the team know about your concerns before treatment and consult your dentist about unexplained or ongoing sensitivity.

10How often can I whiten my teeth?

The right interval depends on your previous treatment, staining and individual tooth condition. Avoid booking repeated treatments without personalised guidance. Your technician can discuss cosmetic maintenance, while your dentist should advise on any oral-health concerns.
